City Administrator Diane Hett threw a chill over the Marion City Commission Monday afternoon when she announced that she is resigning her position. She gave July 5 as her last day on the job. Hett said the only reason for her resignation is she needs to spend more time with her family.

Despite a period of abnormally hot weather a few weeks ago, this year's harvest is expected to be better than average though not as good as last year. According to Co-Op manager Dave Lancaster, test weights so far have been between 57 and 63 pounds a bushel.

2nd Lt. Tyler Nicklaus Hague, great-grandson of Mildred Nicklaus of Peabody and grandson of Willard and Earlene Hague of Marion, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. The son of Don and Beverly (Elling) Hague of Hoxie, he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class.

Carrie Darrow, daughter of Bill and Debbi Darrow of Marion, was a delegate to Sunflower Girls' State last week on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She represented the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 372, of Tampa.

A brief but violent storm on Saturday ripped limbs from trees in Marion, including a magnificent Linden on the grounds of the county courthouse. The tree is thought to be about 90 years old. Some county residents reported hail as the storm moved rapidly through the county. Most of the hail was reported in the south portion of the county near Burns and Peabody.

Rosse and Janice Case's granddaughter, Lory Stone, has been selected to attend a seminar at Princeton University in New Jersey. She was accepted as one out of 50 students across the nation who applied. The topic of the seminar is on liberty and society. The daughter of J.L. and Tammy Stone of Overland Park, she is a sophomore at Kansas State University.
