J.C. Watson on Monday sold his farm adjoining Marion on the south to J.W. Bradshaw of Herington, consideration $18,000. While we are always glad to hear of a neighbor getting his price for that which he wishes to sell, we regret to have the family move to another locality, as we understand is probable, as J.C. was in Topeka last week and looked at land near there.

Mr. F.L. Dockstader and Miss Emma Schlingloff were quietly married Wednesday evening. The announcement came as a surprise to their many friends who wish them well. Rev. Rudolph Caughey performed the ceremony, which took place at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Margaret Parker. Congratulations. It is easy to account for that broad smile that has been decorating "Docks" face lately.

Courthouse Notes

The petitions for naturalization were taken up Monday, the 3rd, and the following were soon full fledged American citizens: Fred Kerbs, Durham; David A. Unruh, Canton; Abraham A. Schmidt, Lehigh; George David, John David, Fred David, Durham; Agatha Gade and John Jaworsky, Hillsboro.

These applicants for citizenship were of the kind that are a benefit to any community. They had been in this country many years longer than required by law and expressed themselves as well satisfied with their new home.

Mrs. Agatha Gade, hale and hearty of 93 summers,, was proud to look to the folds of Old Glory for protection. She's surely welcome.

Kieferle & Williams have fitted the new courthouse up with cuspidors which are among the most beautiful things to be seen about the building. What a pity to spoil them for the purpose for which they were created.

The cork carpet, ordered for the different rooms, is in place and gives first class satisfaction. Easy under foot and makes a quiet room.

The cold snap made it necessary for more radiation in some of the rooms and plumbers have been at work enlarging the radiators in one or two places, while in the offices of Judge Vaughn, County Attorney Burkholder and Recorder Janke additional radiators were necessary. The return pipes from these radiators were run through the basement rooms and the additional heat thankfully received.

A baby girl has been born to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Powers.

How about the rumor that the high school girls have organized a basket ball team?

A fine time was reported at the entertainment and box social at the Poor Farm school house last Saturday evening.

Geo. Penland has purchased a new wind mill and erected it on his farm one and one-fourth miles west of town.

A petition for a license to operate a pool and billiard hall in what is known as the Smoke House, signed by Earl Giddings, was read at the regular session of the city fathers Monday evening, and the license granted. The vote on this question was a tie and Mayor Quisenbery voted yes. The vote was followed by a positive statement from his honor, to the effect that he did not cast his vote in favor of a noisy, disreputable place, but for a place run on proper lines. The subject then had quite an airing, and the city marshal was authorized to cause an investigation on the first complaint.
