Court House Notes

During last week's sessions naturalization papers wee issued to Peter Witske, John Young, Hans Johnson, Theophile Wuertz and Vincent Mastek.

County Attorney Burkholder is now in the new building and pleasantly located at the north end of the corridor on the second floor in the northeast corner of the building.

County Superintendent J.A. Ray always ready with a word of encouragement, is at home in the northeast corner, where a number of teachers have already found him out.

Bright and early Tuesday morning workmen began to dismantle the old Court house, sold last Tuesday to Conard Sells, of Lehigh, for $1215. In a few days quite a showing will be made.

Eugene Meyers, clerk of the district court is located at the south end of the corridor on the second floor convenient to the court room and although quite busy these days he has a pleasant word for everybody.

The contract for moving the big stone jail to a point about 200 feet south of the present location has been signed. Kansas City parties to do the work.

It isn't hard to guess where Judge Vaughn, of the Probate court, is located from the number of marriage Licenses lately issued by that dignity and he was readily located the first day on the first floor in the northwest corner.

A Surprise Wedding

On last Friday, Oct. 11, at 12:30 p.m. Miss Florence Saggau and Mr. Alvin Maltby were quietly married at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Saggau. Rev. Gillmore officiated. Only the families of the contracting parties were present, and the affair was kept secret until Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Maltby and Mrs. Saggau took the 1 o'clock Santa Fe train, Mr. Maltby returning to California and Mrs. Maltby and Mrs. Saggau stopping in Peabody until the next day when they returned to Marion. It was necessary for Mr. Maltby to return to his work in Oil Center, where he will prepare a home for his bride who will follow in a few weeks.

The bride and groom both grew up from childhood in Marion, graduated from High School in the same class, and are both highly esteemed by all who know them. After leaving school Mr. Maltby attended the State University, and now has a good position in the oil refinery at Oil Center, Calif. Mrs. Maltby has been a popular leader in Marion society, is an accomplished musician and artist, having made a special study of pen sketching, water color paintings, and china painting in Chicago, and will be missed by her many friends in social circles.

The RECORD extends heartiest congratulations and best wishes for happiness and prosperity in their wedding life.

The old creamery building at Pilsen will be sold at auction to the highest bidder. The sale to be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, October 19.

Mr. John Siebert is having a cement walk laid in front of his property just north of the Presbyterian church.

Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Hoch and Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Hoch are spending the week camping and fishing on Middle Creek in Chase County.

Garfield Wilson, who has been in St. Louis the past year, returned home Sunday and expects to engage in the painting and paper hanging business. He is an artist in this line and brings with him some new ideas and up-to-date methods. Mr. Taylor of St. Louis will be in partnership with Mr. Wilson.

We are glad to announce that the family of Brown Corby is recovering nicely from the siege of typhoid fever with which they have been battling. Mrs. Corby has been up an about the house for several days, the youngest daughter, Eugenia, returned to school Monday and Miss Lucile is recovering nicely, her temperatures have been normal all day Tuesday for the first time.

Library patrons notice — The library has been moved to the southwest basement room of the court house.

Mrs. Fred Collett of Elk was shopping in Marion Thursday.

There will be a church social at the Aulne school house Friday evening, October 18. Everybody invited.
