C.E. Wells, the telephone man, has recently closed a deal with a big Chicago firm to handle a contrivance used in the stringing of telephone wires, of which he is the inventor. The idea covered by the patent, is technically known as a method of "transposition" — being an improved method of transposing the two wires in a metallic circuit at regular distances along the line to prevent disturbance of the current from induction from other telephone or telegraph wires, which run parallel. That the idea is a good one may be judged from the fact that the contract closed with the Chicago firm guarantees a royalty to Mr. Wells approximating one thousand dollars a year.
