Mrs. J.N. Rogers entertained Tuesday afternoon at a most delightful five course "Dahlia Dinner" in honor of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Luther Mowry, of Denver, Colorado. The dining room decorations were all in crimson in keeping with the beautiful Dahlias which adorned the table. Those present were: Mrs. M.L. Mowry, Mrs. A.E. Downes, Mrs. O.C. Billings, Mrs. Sam Freeland, Mrs. Chas. Thompson, Mrs. Wm. Jolly, Mrs. Rosse Case, Mrs. Seymour Billings, Mrs. Herbert Thorp, Mrs. Clyde Loveless, Miss Nanie Hannaford and Mrs. Homer Hoch.

A friend writing from Lehigh tells about a splendid yield of wheat on Mrs. Elizabeth Franzen and J.H. Franzen's place. There was 4544 bushels of it. C.R. Voth, the well known thresher-man did the work and cleaned out 1806 in one day — the best run he has had in one day during a fourteen years experience at the business. J.H. recently had an elevator and dump put up on his mother's farm and as they will probably have a couple of thousand of bushels of corn to handle it will no doubt pay him. He seems to be something of a farmer as well as a teacher.

One of the finest little pieces of artistic work we have seen for a long time is a "home-made" book recently received by Scott Sheets. It was planned and executed by Fred Dunham who is an excellent pen artist. It is on the subject of Base-ball and is entitled "Base Hits." The reading matter is type-written with artistic border and decorations and the book is illustrated with pictures and designs appropriate to the subject matter. In conception and execution it is a fine piece of work.

Monday's dailies contained a story from Chickasha that Judge J.T. Dickerson had been sued in his own court by a fellow that was in jail for refusal to do what he wanted done in his case. He asks damages in the sum of $500. There's one thing sure. Even if a judge should sit on the bench in his own case, the plaintiff would get a fair trial.

From the "Woman's Corner," edited by Mrs. Homer Hoch, comes this recipe:

Welsh Rarebit

One cup hot milk, 1/4 pound cheese (cut in small bits), 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon mustard, 1 teaspoon flour, 1 tablespoon butter, 1 egg, dash of cayenne. Mix cheese, flour, mustard salt, cayenne and egg (well beaten) together and add hot milk a little at a time, stirring all the time. Cook until smooth and creamy, remove from stove and add butter. Serve hot on toast or on fresh crisp crackers.

A mysterious club has been organized which meets every Tuesday evening It is called the "Angel Eight." We were not informed as to whether the angels are of the fair or dark variety.

Mrs. Chas. Thompson will entertain about eighteen little guests Friday evening in honor of her daughter, Theo's eleventh birthday.

Gollmar Bros. circus which showed here last week is conceded to have been one of the cleanest shows that was ever here. It was a high-class circus.

A number of Marion people took advantage of the special rates to make a trip to Topeka the latter part of last week. Have heard of the following: Messrs Fred Frazer, Roe Williams, Ed. Hannaford, D.W. Wheeler and James McHenry.

Word comes from Topeka that Mr. and Mrs. Humbert Riddle are the parents of a girl born last week.

Dr. and Mrs. R.C. Smith have gone to New York to stay a couple of months. Dr. Smith goes to take a special post-graduate medical course.
