Four Marion County officials were guests Monday at a reception in their honor. County attorney Ed Wheeler, Sheriff Edward Davies, Clerk Marquetta Eilerts, and Commissioner Charles DeForest all complete terms this month. Commission chairman Linda Peterson recognized the four for their years of service and dedication to the county. Refreshments were served to the more than 100 people who attended.

Though it came as a complete surprise to him, the 160 members of Kansas Hereford Association gathered for their annual convention at Salina Dec. 14 when Rex Siebert of Marion was recognized at "Hereford Breeder of the Year."

"Beary Special Babies" born at St. Luke Hospital during the month of December 1996 were Franklin Dean McGuire born Dec. 3 and Kevin Richard Baatrup, Dec. 18.

The slate of officers presented by the nominating committee of Neo-Century Club were elected unanimously at the Jan. 6 meeting. They are: Pauline Edmunds, president; Joyce Duke, vice president; LaVaughn Klose, treasurer; and Mary Ann Wiens, secretary.

Marion Stadium no longer sits on ground belonging to the City of Marion. At a special meeting Dec. 30, Marion Unified School District board of education approved a land transfer which gives them the football stadium, field, and practice area. Sale price was $10.

Two burglaries are under investigation by the Marion Police Department. Carlsons' Grocery was entered some time between 2:30 and 6:30 a.m. Jan 2, Chief Don Keazer said. An undetermined amount of cash was taken, he said. Marion VFW Post No. 6958 was entered sometime between noon New Year's Day and 8:30 a.m. Jan. 2. The bar area was ransacked.

Formerly located in the basement of St. Luke Medical Clinic, the exercise center, Marion Wellness Clinic, opened its doors Jan. 1 in a new location at 110 West Main in downtown Marion. The wellness clinic started in 1983 by Don Hodson, M.D. and Jeff Martin, M.D. Today it is run by a board consisting of Hodson, Judy Versch, and Phoebe Janzen.
