City of Marion commissioners signed a contract Monday to hold one of the Kansas Babe Ruth state tournaments at the local ball park complex in late July.

Jim Zickefoose, who has been a resident of Young, New South Wales, Australia, since 1972, arrived in the United States Jan. 17 for a visit with relatives and friends, including his two sisters, Elora Robinson of Marion and Donna McCallum of Manhattan. Jim's last visit to the States was in December 1983.

The engagement and approaching marriage of Charlotte Janell Thies and Ty Andrew Waner, both of Marion, is announced this week. The wedding is planned for June 6 at the Marion Christian Church.

Pauline Rudolph, daughter of Alberta Winter and the late Clarence Winter, has accepted a position as Branch Manager with Key Bank Corporation in Portland, Ore. She was an employee for more than 15 years with Central National Bank of Marion.

Jennifer Thole, a native of Marion, has returned to the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence to work in the athletic department. She is the daughter of Jon and Suzanne Thole.

King and Queen of Courts will be crowned Friday evening during halftime of the Marion High School-Sacred Heart boys' basketball game. King candidates are Noah King, Josh Whitwell and Jesse Versch. Queen candidates are Leah Arnhold, Clark Wildin and Shonna Wyman.

Fifth and Sixth grade students at Centre Middle School celebrated Kansas Day Thursday by making poster of well-known Kansans, past and present. People recognized included" Carrie Nation, Nancy Kassebaum Baker, psychiatrists of the Menninger family, Wyatt Earp, General/President Dwight D. Eisenhower, James Naismith, John Brown, Alfred Landon, Bob Dole, Amelia Earhart, Wilt Chamberlain, Wild Bill Hickock, Bat Masterson, and Buffalo
