Marion County Rural Addressing committee has assigned preliminary names and numbers to roads throughout the county.

Walk-up and drive-through service will expand soon at Central National Bank in Marion. Construction crews have nearly completed the new service windows and canopy on the bank's south side. Both should be open for customer use early this month.

Royal Smith was honored Friday evening with a surprise birthday party given by his wife, Mary. Those attending included Craig and Janet Smith, Hannah and Ryan of Ozawkie, Jandee Moore, Amber and Ashlee, Jo and Gary Hett, Jared, Jason, and Jordan, Jalynn Smith of El Dorado, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. Sangwin, Buck and Joyce Sangwin, Deb and Don Sanford, and Bob and Gaila Sanford of White City, and Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Hird and Richard Smith of Herington.

Marion High School students will host a dessert theater Saturday in Municipal Auditorium. Each show opens with a one-act Neil Simon play. Funds raised go to student efforts to build a deck near the high school.

Florence Middle School boys' basketball team won the Cottonwood Valley Junior League Tournament Saturday in an overtime 58-53 victory over Eureka. High scorers were Scott Hannaford, 21; Dusty Sharp, 15; Adam Thomas, 12; Robert Conyers, four; and Mike Williams, Tyson Grimmett, and Lance Giesbrecht, two points each.

Lucille Kerbs had lunch with her granddaughter, Allison Phillips, Jan. 24 at McKinley Elementary School in Abilene, and visited Allison's third grade classroom.

Three students from Marion County were among a group from Fort Hays State University attending a pro-life rally Jan. 19-24 in Washington, D.C. They were James Jirak and John and Wayne Rziha.

Centre High School seniors Spencer Hedstrom and Jennea Falen were crowned homecoming king and queen Friday before the St. Xavier basketball games
