Myron L. Frans, a native of Marion, has been appointed to the board of directors of the prestigious Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation. An attorney, he is the son of Fern Palmer of Marion and the late Charles Frans.

The 37th annual men's handicap bowling tournament was completed this weekend at MarBowl Lanes. First place in the team competition went to the Weekenders #1 team. Al Wynn and Dick Alcorn garnered first place in the doubles. Alcorn also was first in handicap singles and all events and also first in scratch singles and all events.

After Calvin Hett's untimely death in October, the Marion High School class of 1990 and other friends have established a scholarship fund in his name. According to its sponsors, proceeds from investment of the ongoing fund will be used each year to provide scholarships for Marion High School graduates who go to college.

Florence Middle School student Steven Waner will represent Marion County this year in the state spelling bee. FMS student Jesse Shippy was second and Todd Stahlecker of Centre Elementary School was third.

Patrolman Cal Seadeek of Marion Police Department received a report Feb. 12 from Geraldine Williams. She said a Dalmatian statue was stolen from her yard at 804 S. Maple.

Harlow Warneke is the building, health, and safety officer for the City of Marion. Part of his work replaces duties formerly held by the city standards board. He also wants to re-establish a beautification committee to recognize attractive homes and businesses.

American Heart Association volunteers Lisa Donahue and Paula Berg are pictured as they check lunch bags Friday for the "Home With a Heart" fund raiser sponsored by Marion Manor. The nursing home contributed all materials. Volunteers sacked and delivered 252 lunches, which sold for $4 each, with all proceeds going to the American Heart Association.
