Bob Hein, Hillsboro mayor was nominated Tuesday for the position of Marion County First District Commissioner by district Republican precinct committee members. Hein replaces the late Leon Suderman, and will complete an unexpired term which ends in January 1999.

Local legislators will be in Marion Saturday to give a report on legislative activities this session. 70th District Rep. Don Dahl and 34th District Sen. Don Steffes will be in Marion about 10:30 a.m. at Stone City Café.

A serious leak of water near the large tower at the east side of Marion is reported to be on the Marion County Lake line. City of Marion foreman Robert Schmidt said Monday the leak in the plastic line, which was installed by the lake district, is huge, perhaps 50,000 gallons was lost.

Jeff and Terri Bina of Marion are the parents of a son born Feb. 5 at St. Luke Hospital. He has been given the name of Justin Dean Bina.

Twentieth Century Club met Feb. 3 at the home of Bettie Batt for a program presented by Mrs. Batt about her collection of Hummel figurines and on the life of M.I. Hummel. The program was introduced by the club's "Harmonicats," who sang "Hummel, Sweet Hummel." The singing group is comprised of Vivian Conyers, Rosie Plenert and Janice Case.

Winner of the team event at the 36th annual handicap tournament of the Marion City Women's Bowling Association, held Feb. 1 and 2, was Phantom Video. Team members include Bernadeen Winter, Virginia Steele, Wendy Steele, Angela Miller, and Cheryl Olsen.

Florence Middle School girls' basketball team earned second place medal Saturday at the Cottonwood valley League tournament. Team members are Katie Rogers, Randi Barnett, Melissa Moffitt, Erin Slattery, VanDee Allison, Heather Tajchman, Sara Zogelman, Amanda Fruechting, Tiffany Tajchman, Nikki Rogers, Sarah Versch, and Amanda Ewert.
