About 60 residents signed up Thursday for a proposed water district in Marion County. Marion County Rural Water District No. 5 would provide water to portions of Marion, Morris, and Dickinson counties.

Mayoral candidates Jack Regnier and Ken Monroe will be guest speakers at the March 17 meeting of the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

Members of the Florence City Council met Monday night and approved purchase of a 1995 ambulance for the city-operated ambulance service at a cost of $64,760.

Expansion of St. Luke Medical Clinic will start this summer, members of the board of directors of Marion County Hospital District No. 1 decided on Thursday.

Jared Herzet is pictured as he signs a letter of intent to play football for Benedictine College of Atchison. Line coach Mark Meyer and head coach Grant Thierolf said Herzet will be a strong addition to the school. College coaches are considering him for either offensive of defensive line play, depending on their greatest need.
