Berlin students and their Marion hosts gathered March 11 for a get-acquainted party in Marion Christian Church. The 13 students and their group leader, Matt Nitschke, arrived March 10 and will depart March 23.

Ern Hett is pictured creating magic from bits of metal for a group of travel agents and tour operators. The Copper Shed at Aulne was a highlight of a tour, which was arranged by Prairie People, a tour development group.

Melissa Stuchlik of Lincolnville has been notified that her recipe for navy bean soup has been included in the Country Pork cookbook being published by Taste of Home Books.

Kelley Hett, a full-time student at Butler County Community College of Marion, has been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. She is the daughter of Mary Ann and Keith Conyers and Steve Hett, all of Marion.

Two young students from Marion, Scott Hannaford and Ryan Thomas, are pictured with Gov. Bill Graves. The two boys were serving as pages in the Kansas Senate for Sen. Don Steffes.

About 100 students and faculty members are involved in the production of "Bye Bye Birdie" to be performed Friday and Saturday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Those playing leading roles are Andy Methvin, Courtney Goering, Gabrielle Longhofer, Dusty Sharp, Chris Bowers, Katie Barta-Moran, Josh Powers, Molly Hanes, Eliza Bennett, and Jesse Versch.

Centre High School's Quiz Bowl team won the championship at 1A regional Scholars' Bowl March 8 at Madison. Team members are Eric Carlson, Lucas Carlson, David Rziha, Albert Jirak, and Janie Rziha.

Former Marion Kiwanis Club member Bill Wygle returned to the club Monday as a candidate to head the Kansas District. Wygle was superintendent of schools in Marion in the mid — 1950s. He went on to a distinguished career in education as an administrator at public schools and universities.
