The Marion Pizza Hut will open its doors August 1, says co-owner Bob Navrat. Navrat, who was born and raised in the Pilsen community north of Marion, owns Pizza Huts in Council Grove, Herington, Hillsboro, and Strong City.

St. Luke Hospital and Living Center courtyard is now graced by a miniature fountain and reflection pool. Funded by the St. Luke Foundation, the six foot by three foot pool is small enough to not overwhelm the rest of the courtyard. The decorative concrete statue will be removed in the winter and stored indoors.

An estimated 350 bicyclists will be in Marion June 15 for the annual Bike Across Kansas tour. Riders will begin arriving that morning from the west, and continue to arrive all day. Businesses are asked to offer special evening hours for the bicyclists, who will stay overnight in Marion Gym.

The Marion High School forensics team traveled to Wichita Heights High School for state competition May 7. The following received first division ratings and gold medals for their performances: Matt Power, Jon Moffitt, Gage Higgins, Terese Vinduska, Gabriella Longhofer, Elly Barta-Moran, Monica Parscal, Mark Engler, and Katrina Hancock.

The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy honored 13 graduating seniors at its annual seniors recognition and awards program May 14. Bradley P. Tice, son of Martin C. and Margaret Tice of Marion, received the Kansas Pharmacist's Association Award and American Pharmaceutical Association Achievement Award.

Lance Carrithers is the new pastor at Valley United Methodist Church. Carrithers and his wife, Kristi, have two daughters, Sydney and Taylor. A native of Johnson, Kansas, he comes to Marion from serving in the Tescott and Culver United Methodist churches.

Charles and Darlene Gutsch of Burdick will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 18, at a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. in the former Catholic hall in Tampa. The reception will be followed by a dance at 8 p.m.
