A hiking, bicycle, and horse path route between Marion and McPherson may be the ultimate fate of the abandoned railroad which formerly served the two towns and others. Central Kansas Conservancy, Inc. receive approval Monday from Marion City Commission to pursue the project.

Several students who will be seniors this fall in area high schools were among those who attended Girls' State and Boys' State in recent weeks. Marion students attending were Clark Wildin, Leah Arnhold, Caroline Savage, Jesse Versch, Nathan Collett and Andy Methvin.

Charity King joined the Marion County Record staff June 6 as a summer journalism intern. King, a senior at Wichita State University, is staying at the home of her parents, Larry and Jane King.

Amanda Fruechting's essay which won first place in the Women's Christian Temperance Union-sponsored Florence Middle School contest, has now been awarded first place in Kansas. As state winner, the essay has advanced to national competition. Amanda is the daughter of Kevin and Lori Fruechting of Marion.

Julie Sellers of Florence has returned following a year spent studying in Spain. Sellers, who is working on her doctorate in Spanish literature, was chosen to be a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, was sent to Spain to study at a university and to speak to Rotary clubs. While away, Sellers gave 10 presentations to Rotary meetings, including one in England.

The Swing Singers of Marion High School had a surprise barbecue May 29 in honor of their director, Mark Lucas.

The ninth birthday of Jason Hett was celebrated Sunday afternoon with cake and ice cream served in Central Park by his family, Jo and Gary Hett, Jared and Jordan.
