Wheat harvested in Marion County this year generally high in quality and producing yields and test weights higher than last year's harvest when the wet weather was a haven for diseases, drowned many fields, and postponed the harvest. This year, dry weather has caused many farmers to start cutting early.

Marion Kiwanis Club members heard from Marion High School student, Jodi Thomas, at Monday's meeting. Thomas told of her experiences recently had while attending the High O'Brian Youth Foundation seminar in Wichita.

Starting July 1, recipients of the Purple Heart may now receive a license plate recognizing their sacrifice. About 6,500 Kansans currently are eligible for the plates.

Steven Ray Waner and Traci Sue Helmer wish to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. The couple will be married Aug. 27 at Marion Christian Church.

Members of the Marion County Economic Development Committee toured northern Marion County June 15 to familiarize themselves with the area. They were joined by Phyllis Melton, president of the Marion Historical Society. Melton talked throughout the tour about the area's history.

Greg and Dena Tice of Wichita announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, June 17 in St. Luke Hospital. She has been named Erin Marchyl.

Prairie People Tourism Association has available a promotional video which highlights Marion County. The video, "Heroes, History, and Heritage," shows tourist opportunities in Marion and other towns in the area.
