The first Chingawassa Days held last weekend in Marion was an overall success, according to festival organizers. An estimated 1,500 buttons and bracelets were sold for the festival, said Chairman Reuben Feuerborn of Marion.

Joshua Wildin, son of Brad and Jeannie Wildin of Marion, has been selected as a member of the K-State Singers.

A $10,000 contribution from Central National Bank to Parkside Homes, Inc., Hillsboro, will be used to fund the installation of automatic doors at the retirement center. "We knew there was a need here, said Mike Padgett, president of the bank's Hillsboro office. Padgett said the bank likes to support endeavors like the one at Parkside.

Gene and Marge Christensen and Cheryl Christensen attended the ceremony recently when Jay W. Christensen was officially sworn in as postmaster at Peabody.

The University of Kansas School of Education has honored teachers across the state who have long service records. The following teachers from Marion County were recognized: Gordon Mohn, 25 years, Hillsboro-Durham-Lehigh; Demitry Evancho, 25 years, Centre USD; Faie Frederickson, 24-plus years, Peabody-Burns USD. Those honored from Marion USD, each with 25 years of service, include Janet Longhofer, Therese Slattery, and Judith Stewart.

A come and go "holiday" shower was given June 22 to compliment future bride, Denise Meierhoff. The idea of the shower was to give various holiday decorations to the bride-to-be. Hostesses were Mickey Collett, Sally Hannaford, Tamara McCreath, Stephanie McLain, Kathy Meierhoff, and Stacey Pedersen.

Andrea Wegerer, daughter of Lou and Judy Wegerer, and Kristin Warnick, daughter of Wayne and Wendy Hoffman represented the Marion-Florence chapter of FFA at the annual leadership conference held June 10-15 in Washington, D.C.

Harvesting began on Saturday, but a large percentage of the wheat crop in Marion County will not be cut until the moisture level drops.
