"Liverpool" makes a return appearance to Marion Summerfest Saturday on Central Park Stage. The band uses original 1960s-era equipment and reproductions of the original costumes, to recreate the Beatles as closely as possible.

Strong winds hit Marion County at 10:30 p.m. Friday, knocking out power to part of the county and destroying numerous trees, small buildings and farm equipment. The national weather service meteorologist in Wichita said 60 mph winds were reported in Durham but had no official reports for the rest of the county.

Florence Middle School coach Steve Janzen will travel to Topeka August 4 to accept his award as Kansas State High School Activities Association Middle School Coach of the Year.

Justin Hett, son of Eldon and Rhonda Hett of Marion, recently completed the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Training Center in Hutchinson.

Meggan Silhan was selected as second runner-up in the annual Tri-County Junior Miss contest held June 25 at Herington. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Silhan of Marion. She was awarded a $150 scholarship. Ramie Bina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bina of Lincolnville, received a $50 scholastic achievement award.

A crowd of more than 200 friends and relatives gathered at Holy Family Parish Activity Center in Marion Sunday afternoon to honor Msgr. Arthur Tonne and help him celebrate his 90th birthday.
