Thad Meierhoff will take over as owner of Beaston Market effective Aug. 1. The Beaston family has owned grocery stores in Marion since 1902. The market was opened in Marion in 1902 by Harry Beaston, who ran it for 26 years. Jay Beaston then ran it for 40 years and Jack and Vernie Beaston are retiring after 26 years.

Local residents and downtown merchants were temporarily alarmed Tuesday morning when they saw movers carrying desks and chairs out of Butler County Community College's location at 201 E. Main. However, signs taped to the window informed the college was consolidating at its 412 N. 2nd location, former Bown-Corby school.

A miscellaneous bridal shower was held Sunday at Marion Christian Church complimenting Kristina Bell, bride-elect of Kevin Burkholder. Hostesses were Bev Jirak, Ruth Herbel, Donna Hayen and Bonnie Schmidt They were assisted by Donna Kelly.

Bryan Kabler has replaced Jim Bridges, who has retired, as caretaker of parks and municipal buildings in Marion. He previously worked for Solomon Electric in Solomon. Horticulture has been his hobby.

Gail Makovec and Larry Bina of rural Ramona have purchased 16 emus to raise and breed.

Marion High School Gymnasium was the site of the annual Marion Basketball camp Monday through today. Bob Chipman, men's basketball coach at Washburn University is conducting the camp. He is assisted by Scot Pollard of KU, Demond Davis of KSU, and Brian Henson of Washburn.
