Marion County Commission approved a resolution Monday opposing the railbanking of an abandoned rail line in the county. A copy of the county resolution was sent to the Surface Transportation Board in Washington, D.C. Opponents of the trail want the transportation board to reject the railbanking request.

At its monthly meeting Monday the Board of Education of Centre Unified School District reviewed a preliminary draft drawing of a proposed expansion to the agricultural/vocational building.

Greg and Linda Carlson, family members, and City of Marion workers erected a playset Friday in Central Park. The set was bought in honor of the Carlsons' toddler daughter, who died Nov. 29.

Congressman Jerry Moran welcomed Kansas FFA President Emily Belton, Tampa, to Washington during the summer conference of FFA. Moran and Belton discussed the future of Kansas agriculture and other issues facing rural communities.

"School Time" was the theme Sept. 2 for the table decorations at the salad buffet which began the year for Neo Century Club. Hostesses for the meeting, which was held at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, were Pauline Edmunds, Joyce Duke, LaVaughn Klose, Virginia Heerey and Mary Ann Wiens.

Gov. Bill Graves will visit Marion County Sept. 18 at part of Kansas Farm Bureau's Farm and Ranch Field Day.

People from a wide area converged on Tampa Saturday evening to enjoy good food and excellent entertainment. The event was the annual hog roast provided by Tampa State Bank with the help of employees and community volunteers.

Marion High School classes are providing funds for the Big M near Marion Stadium. Volunteers will construct a large concrete M on a hillside near the stadium. They need at least $1,000 for concrete, as well as for a memorial plaque at the stadium.
