The building which formerly housed the Edson Childs, George Waner, and Newcomer Ford businesses was razed Friday afternoon by Buckner Construction Co. Now owned by Central National Bank Marion County, the old brick building was razed to provide a parking lot to serve customers and employees of the soon-to-be-enlarged bank.

Marion City Commission met Monday, approving an amendment to a city ordinance allowing restaurants to serve cereal malt beverages on Sunday. The amendment was made to accommodate a request from Pizza Hut, said Mayor Gerry Harris.

Sixty-six women from Emporia, Council Grove, Newton, Halstead, Hesston, El Dorado, Towanda, and Wichita enjoyed a nearly perfect afternoon for golf Thursday afternoon, followed by a steak dinner.

Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Abbott recently hosted the annual Burr Oak neighborhood summer gathering in their back yard. Others attending were Gerry and Linda Harris, Harvey and Betty Sanders, Jim and Donna Fruechting, Rodney and Diane Richmond, Amber and Erin, David and Charla Wheeler, Joe and Phyllis Ragole, and Bob and Margaret Harris.

Marion High School homecoming candidates for 1994 are Dawn Spencer, Kay Summervill, Laura Hanes, Brian Loomis, Lucas King, and Aaron Reiswig. Winners will be crown Friday during the half time of the Marion/Remington football game.

David and Shirley Bowers have returned safely from their 3-week visit to the Paden family in United Arab Emirates. They enjoyed their visit and seeing 9-month-old Jonathan for the first time.
