Hundreds of onlookers kept a sharp eye Sept. 28 on those removing fish from the stilling basin below Marion Reservoir during the Reservoir's inspection this past week by the Corps of Engineers. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks recovered more than 40 flathead catfish, of which 23 were between 20 and 40 pounds. About 1,200 pounds of rough fish were given away to the hundreds who turned out for free fish. Marion Reservoir dam, gates, and stilling basin are in fine condition and probably won't be extensively inspected for another 10 years.
