A reference to a brief but memorable piece of Marion history was selected as the name for a town-wide festival to be held next summer. "Chingawassa Days" was selected from a list of 32 suggested names. Diane Branson of Marion made the suggestion.

Otto Lehman, longtime Lincolnville businessman who served as mayor for many years, was grand marshal Saturday for Lincolnville's Octoberfest parade.

Open house was held Sept. 22 at Hilltop Manor to celebrate its 25th year.

Janice and Rosse Case and Virginia and Boyd Higgins of Hutchinson returned Sept. 24 from a two week tour in England, Scotland, and Ireland.

Three parties were held during the weekend to celebrate the eighth birthday of Jessica Bernhardt. Invited for the first party at Jessica's home after school Friday for supper and to remain for a slumber party and breakfast the next day were Amber Talkington, Rose Taylor, Sydney Carrithers, and Katie Whitaker.

Nikki Bina, daughter of Ray and Denice Bina of Lincolnville, has been selected to compete for Senate Youth Representative from Centre High School. She was selected on the recommendation of her American Government teacher at CHS. Bina will compete with others from Kansas to advance to national competition.

Marion High School homecoming candidates are Mandy Hanson, Gabrielle Longhofer, Lisa Zogelman, Shawn Markley, Chris Bowers and Jeremy May. Homecoming ceremonies are set for halftime of the football game Friday against Remington.

Kathleen Bernhardt, office manager for the Marion area Kansas Department of Transportation, has been honored for 30 years of service.

In pre-game ceremonies Friday, Josh Plett and Wendy Rudolph were crowned CHS homecoming king and queen.

Florence Middle School students Jamey Cooper, Tina McCarty, VanDee Allison, Meredith Moore, and Erin Slattery and teacher Susan Reid, are recent recipients of incentive awards. Students and teachers are considered for the award based on requirements such as good citizenship.
