A collection of hunting license stamps used in Marion County decades ago will be featured in a display next year at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. One display will consist entirely of Marion County license stamps. "It's important because Marion County was the first local government to issue stamps," explained David Torre, the collector whose stamps will be exhibited. The stamps were printed at the Marion County Record office.

Marion Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Doug Huxman resigned Tuesday, effective at the end of the school year in June.

Calvin Hett, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hett, died as the result of injuries received in a tragic accident shortly after noon Tuesday in a pasture three miles north of Peabody.

About 20 students with American Field Services visited Marion County this past weekend. The students from Poland, Russia, Korea, Italy, Finland, Chile, Sweden, Germany, Japan and Thailand camped at Marion Reservoir. They picked up trash near the dam as a service project. They also visited the Copper Shed in Aulne. They are exchange students at high schools in the Kansas City area.

Walter and Betty Ireland, Florence recently were presented 35-year service awards as observers for the National Weather Service by Richard H. Elder, meteorologist in charge of the Wichita office. The Irelands have provided rainfall and temperature data in the Florence area for the past 35 years as part of the national network of observers.

Ramie Bina, daughter of Ray and Denice Bina, Lincolnville, was crowned homecoming queen at ceremonies held Oct. 4 on the campus of Friends University, Wichita. Ramie is a junior at Friends majoring in elementary education.
