Jodi Smith was guest speaker at the meeting of Centre Lodge 147, AF&AM, when they honored past masters on Oct. 25. Smith told of her experiences while she was in the Masonic All-State Band. She spent a week at band camp and the band performed during the annual East-West Shrine Bowl game.

Two Marion High School students were among 19 recognized for academic achievement during Business Day activities at Emporia State University. Receiving awards for excellence in business subjects were Laura Hanes and Rebecca Collett.

The six surviving children of John Henry and Christina Hopp Schimpf met in Hutchinson recently to honor their youngest sister. Those present were Henry Schimpf of Stafford, Emma Allen of Dodge City, Leah Stenzel and Lydia Batt of Marion, Hanna Wood of Hutchinson, and Rachel MacGowan of Derby. Leah and Rachel are twins. Combined age of the six siblings totals 500 years.

Marion High School students Courtney Goering and Josh Wildin were named to the District 6 Honor Choir this past weekend. They will participate in an all-day clinic Dec. 3 with other members of the choir, and perform in concert that evening.

James and Melinda Schroeder are the parents of a daughter, Kate Elizabeth, born Nov. 6 in St. Luke Hospital. She and her 7-year-old sister Ranell and a 3-year-old brother Doug are the grandchildren of Merle and Emma Douglas of Marion and JayDean and Judy Schroeder of rural Marion.

Double ring vows in the Marion Christian Church August 27 united Traci Sue Helmer and Steven Ray Waner in holy matrimony.
