City of Marion commissioners met with Southwestern Bell Telephone officials Monday afternoon to discuss designating the town's industrial park as a fiber park. Brenton Larson, director of business development for Southwestern Bell told the commission "Kansas is a good place to attract the telecommunications industry." And he pointed out that Marion has great opportunity in the area.

A group of relatives, friends, area postmasters and retired postmasters gathered at Tampa Post Office Monday to witness the installation of a new postmaster, Della Maholland of Salina. Maholland replaces Shirley Hamm who retired several months ago. Elaine Backhus has been the officer in charge during the interim.

Centre High School won the state Eight Man Division I football championship game Saturday by the score of 44 to 18. They beat defending state champion Little River in the game played at Salina.

Ernest Hett, well known as owner of The Copper Shed and formerly honored as Kansas Artist of the Year in 1985, died unexpectedly Nov. 21 while working at his studio south of Marion.

Debbie Bryant, R.N., of Marion has opened a private, adult-care home at 121 N. Freeborn, Marion. The home provides 24-hour care every day and offers an alternative to living in a traditional nursing facility.

Florence Middle School quiz bowl teams placed second and third at Council Grove this past week. The Blue Team of Steven Waner, Lynn Hess, Dainne Shipman, Tamra Holub, and Trent Becker finished second. The Gold Team of William Scriven, Stacia Williams, Becky Taylor, Stephanie Oakes, and Ashlee Moore finished third.

Bicyclists will have the opportunity to work up an appetite Thanksgiving Day. They will gather at 8 a.m. in Central Park, Marion, and ride for an hour.

Ezra and Pearl (Seibel) Helmer will observe their 45th wedding anniversary Nov. 28 and their children are requesting a card shower in honor of the occasion.

A program entitled "Dolls" to be presented by Beverly Ehrlich and Barbara Graham, will be the highlight of the Dec. 1 gathering of Neo-Century Club.
