Almost 400 steaks were provided to area farmers and ranchers at the annual Mario Chamber of Commerce farm/city steak fry. Marion High School Swing Singers performed and Doug Sharp gave a program on the experiences managing farms in Saudi Arabia.

Casey's General Stores of Ankeny, Iowa, have requested permission from Kansas Department of Transportation and the City of Marion to construct a retail facility on the northwest corner of the East Main and North Freeborn intersection in Marion.

Robert B. "Bob" Gayle Sr. has retired from his job as maintenance supervisor for the city of Florence. His last day was Nov. 14.

A miscellaneous bridal shower given Nov. 19 at Our Savior Lutheran Church complimented Sherry Lange who will be married Jan. 6. Hostesses were Sharon Kelsey, Kathy Goodin, Marcia Bolte and Jane Gooding.

Five Marion High School students have been named to the All-District VI choir and one to the District VI band. Named to the choir were Andy Methvin, Jenny Groening, Joey Smallwood, Courtney Goering, and Josh Wildin. Austin Gilbert will perform with the trumpet section of the band.

Main Street in Marion was closed for several days this past week so crews could improve the railroad crossing just east of Marion Die and Fixture. The crossing had been full of bumps and dips, but is now much smoother, and easier on vehicles.

Among those from this area granted scholarships at Wichita State University are Katrina Hancock and Scott Wituk of Marion and Nicholas Bissett and Anthony Fulton of Peabody.
