First Mennonite Church of Burns will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sunday. The public is welcome to attend the morning worship service, noon fellowship meal and afternoon presentation. Because of volunteer labor, the church building was built for only $13,704.

The Christmas decorating committee of Marion Chamber of Commerce is again offering clear lights for holiday decorating by businesses and residences in Marion. The home decorating contest will be repeated this year and homes will be judged the evening of Dec. 14. The theme chosen for this year's contest will be "Dickens' Old Fashioned Christmas."

Sunday afternoon will find friends and family of Phyllis Melton gathering in the fellowship hall of Valley United Methodist Church to pay tribute to the Marion County historian on her 80th birthday.

A fun evening was enjoyed by 20th Century Club members Oct. 23 at the home of Jean Case. Each guest was welcomed to a Marion football tailgate party at the Case home. The hostess and her assistants, Evelyn Anderson, Vivian Conyers, Shirley Jo Hett, and Joyce Patterson, served a variety of hot soups bread sticks, crackers, and drink. Guests enjoyed doughnuts and hot apple cider during half-time.

"Beary Special Babies" born during September and October were Josie Caroline Brittain, Sept. 1; Danae Elizabeth Bina, Oct. 15; and Luke Holiday Steele, Oct. 20.

Florence Middle School students who maintain good grades and good citizenship are eligible for weekly incentive awards. Recent winners include Jenny Lundgren, Josh Bryant, Steven Janzen, Heather Tajchman and Sarah Goodin.
