Members of the Board of Education of Marion Unified School District will meet Dec. 30 to formally approve resolutions seeking voter approval of bonds to fund additional classrooms at Marion Elementary School, and build a junior high school adjacent to Marion High School.

Tommy and Betty Thompson will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 14 with no planned activity in honor of the occasion. The couple and their family celebrated in June when they spent a weekend together in Branson, Mo.

Marion High School junior Jennifer Savage was named student of the month by the faculty. She is the daughter of Rex and Carolyn Savage of rural Florence.

Grounds was broken Friday for Sunrise Townhomes on Eisenhower Drive in Marion. When completed this summer, the project will provide eight duplexes with 16 housing units.

There's a new town taking shape inside Marion. It's "Tiny Town" and is the product of Ginger Becker's first grade class at Marion Elementary School. Lauren Helmer is the mayor. Corrine Baliel is the mayor's secretary. Jake Bredemeier is city treasurer. Chase Carlson and Calvin Jeffrey are in retail businesses. Taylor Carrithers and Carroll Moore are postal workers. Hank Collett and Keith Jones are attorneys, John Goering is the sanitation engineer and Leigha Stafford is his assistant. Logan Richmond, Bryce Suffield, Hunter Spencer and Jessica Phillips are in charge of the Hallway Cards factory. Kristin Waner and Michelle Vinduska are co-editors of B In The News, the town's newspaper. And Donald Miller is the police officer.

Eastshore resident Leason "Pete" McCloud will be inducted Tuesday into the Newton High School athletic hall of fame. His statistics are impressive — three-time all-state player in high school (1936-38), all-Big Seven player with the University of Colorado (1940, 1942), All-America player (1942), and leading scorer for industrial and professional basketball teams.
