More than 70 Florence residents gathered to discuss proposed building changes in Marion Unified School District. Most favored opening a second elementary school in Florence, or expanding the current middle school there.

Steven Waner won first place in Marion Elementary School spelling bee Jan. 17. Stacia Williams was runner-up. Both are students of Michelle Flaming. The countywide spelling bee is Feb. 7 at MES.

Julie Bowyer and Todd Lair of Wichita spent Sunday with her grandmother, Doris Bowyer.

Dale Snelling reports there are around 2,000 Canada geese and about the same number of Mallard ducks on the lake now. They fly out in the morning to nearby fields for breakfast and fly back later. The fishing at the heated dock is a bit slow, but fishermen are there most of the time.

Members of Tampa Lions Club and their spouses enjoyed supper Jan. 19 at Butch's Diner as a post-Christmas celebration. After the dinner, a musical program was presented by Steve Hanneman and Bob Delk. Those present included Tom and Dee Duggan, Warren and Paula Fike, Jim and Mary Clemmer, Fred and Ruby Moffitt, Shirley and Duane Hamm, Janice Rorabaugh, Gene and Betty Costello, Lynn and Peggy Kleiber, Chris Costello, Greg and Michele Brenes, Paul and Edna Backhus, Reuben and Lucille Kerbs, Ted and Adeline Bernhardt, Nathan Bailey, and Ken Klein.

Tammy and J.L. Stone, Lory and Lisa of Overland Park were weekend guests of Rosse and Janice Case. They celebrated Tammy's birthday Saturday evening at a dinner at Stone Haven in Florence.
