Marci Penner, co-founder of the Kansas Sampler Foundation, was the featured speaker during Monday night's annual Marion Chamber of Commerce membership dinner. Members of the board of directors for 1995 include Gene Winkler, Mike Classen, Doug Sharp, Janie Meierhoff, Stan Hett, Jerry Cady, Susan Robson, Dan Baldwin, and Larry Reiswig.

Centre High School's victory over Hope Saturday night in the Eisenhower League Tournament boys' championship game was that rarity of rarities — a triple-overtime game. Centre wrapped up the win, 61-56.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David Oborny on the birth of a son, Thomas Lee, Saturday morning at St. Luke Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. George Oborny and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schepker of Jefferson City, Mo., are Thomas' grandparents. Anne Steiner and Mr. and Mrs. Albin Eynard of Jefferson City are great-grandparents.

Junior and Jeanetta Hanschu went to Wichita Friday night to celebrate Jan's birthday at the home of Jayson and Jan Hanschu.

Norma Kline of Marion was one of 10 new volunteer workers to have completed the 16-hour training and have joined the Central Homecare and Hospice staff to provide support to hospice families.

Josh Powers, Carrie Darrow, and Medea Fowler were top finishers in the Florence Middle School spelling bee. Darrow placed first. She and Powers will participate in the county spelling bee Feb. 8. Fowler is the alternate.
