Heartland Wireless will provide television service to rural and town subscribers in an area that extends from Newton to McPherson to Salina to Abilene to Herington to Elmdale to Burns to Peabody, and everything in between, including Marion, Hillsboro, Tampa, Durham, Lincolnville, Lost Springs and points east, west, north and south in a wide circle extending 35 to 40 miles from the transmitting tower west of Durham.

A group of eight German students met briefly Monday with Marion City Commission. They are visiting as members of the Committee for the Promotion for Youth Exchange, which brings students from Berlin to Marion each year.

Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer Post 6958, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will observe the post's 50th birthday with a golden anniversary dinner for members and auxiliary members at 6 p.m. April 13 at the post home.

Marion High School opens is first official girls' softball season this week. Team members are Rachel Cartwright, Jami Groening, Kim Hajek, Jodi Thomas, Jennie Hanes, Melanie Cleeton, Michele Davis, Lisa Zogelman, Darla McFadden, Heather Holub, Jenny Creamer, Jamie Davis, Holly Eddy Medea Fowler, Patricia Harris, Morgan Hett, Sunne Hicks, Sara Moffitt, Angie Moore, Kim Perkins, Starla Riggs, Irene Robles, Theresa Smallwood and Maria Voelker. Coaches are Kerry Dees and Pam Speaks.

This month's "Beary Special Babies" at St. Luke Hospital are Sage Elizabeth Bayes, born March 17; Matthew Austin Eickleberry, March 17; Timothy Michael Vinduska, March 22 and Cassandra Lee Simpson, March 29.
