Jack Regnier defeated Kenneth Monroe for Marion mayor Tuesday by a two-to-one margin. The $330,000 bond issue for accessibility improvements to the county courthouse passed county-wide.

James Bina earned the state wrestling championship March 25 for those 10 years of age and younger wrestling at 76 pounds. He is the son of Ray and Denice Bina of Lincolnville.

Marion High School golf team is coming off an impressive Cottonwood Valley League title championship in 1994. They have a chance to retain it, Coach Tod Gordon said. The squad is led by Brian Loomis and Aaron Reiswig. Lucas King, Chad Buchholz, Matt Powers, J.W. Goering and Austin Gilbert round out the primary team.

Jo Helmer of Marion has been appointed to the state Child Death Review Board by Attorney General Carla Stovall. Helmer is director of Compeer for Prairie View of Marion.

Marion Elementary School aide Robin Richmond is pictured serving as crossing guard as school is dismissed. Staff members share the duty, started in an effort to prevent accidents involving cars and children. So many children and cars are present on Lawrence Street each day after school some parents feared an accident was certain to occur.

Grandma Tina the Wonder Dog, winner of Successful Farming magazine as "Best Trained Dog of the Year," demonstrated some of her tricks Saturday at a Chat & Dine Club meeting. Tina is owned by Peggy Barrett of Elmdale.
