A proposal to offer boys' baseball and girls' softball each spring topped a long agenda Monday at the Marion Unified School District Board of Education meeting.

Births announced in this week's issue include Colton Marshall, son of Mike and Diane Jeffrey, Marion; Madison Jo, daughter of John and Robin Dicks, Marion; Brett Austin, son of Doug and Colleen Weinbrenner, Hillsboro; Carley Sloan, son of Tim and Krystal Bartlett, Oklahoma City; and Erin Leigh, daughter of Chris and Kathy Meierhoff, Marion.

Marion High School won the Cottonwood Valley League business skills contest April 3, placing first of five schools. Those placing were Laura Hanes, Rebecca Collett, Clark Wildin, Michelle Wessel, Jason Warren, and Kelley Hett.

Bob Ehrlich's 60th birthday was honored Saturday evening when relatives and friends were invited to a hog roast. The surprise celebration was hosted by his children and grandchildren.

The Florence Women's Christian Temperance Union has awarded prizes in the Florence Middle School essay contest on drugs. First prize went to Carrie Darrow, second prize to Renee Reiswig, and third prize to Maria Voelker.

Three Centre High School students are making plans to continue their athletic careers in college. Jennea Falen has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Hutchinson Community College, Cicely Carlson has signed to play basketball for Dodge City Community College, and Jill Brunner is being recruited to play softball at a junior college.
