Work begins Monday on the Marion County Courthouse accessibility project. Commissioners signed contracts Monday with Sunflower Building Inc. of Manhattan.

Only nine people were present Thursday night for the public meeting called by Marion city facilitator Diane Hett to discus community improvement.

Forrest Smith was elected president of Marion City Library board of trustees at their May 6 meeting. Other officers are vice president Jim Bridges, secretary Carol Maggard, and treasurer Vivian Conyers. Other board members are Brenda Rhodes, Margaret Pickering and Ed Davies.

Miltonvale school principal Ken Arnhold has been offered the Marion High School principal position for 1996-97.

Ethan Good, son of Robert and JoAnn Good of Marion, was invited by Gov. Bill Graves to attend the 13th annual Governor's Scholars Award Program May 5 in Topeka. The recognition ceremony honors the top academic one percent of Kansas high school seniors.

Jeff Peterson of Manhattan won the Wichita River Festival Wheelchair River Run, held Sunday in downtown Wichita. Peterson is the son of Dan and Linda Peterson of Burdick.

John L. Moore of Marion will carry the Olympic torch for part of its trek through Kansas this week. Moore and several members of his bicycle association were selected to carry the torch on Friday 100 kilometers from Topeka to Emporia.

Kikuko Higashino, a foreign exchange student from Fukuoka, Japan, is the student of the month at Marion High School. Kikuko's host parents in Marion are Doug and Joy Vogel.
