This week the Marion County Record joins the rapidly growing pool of newspapers available on the Internet. At the age of 127, the Ol' Thing has ventured into cyberspace, which is a far cry from the shirttail of handset type and sheet-fed press of 1869.

Jessica Laurin, DVM, will open her new clinic in August, she told Marion Kiwanis Club members on Monday. Laurin said the opening date for Animal Health Center of Marion County was tentatively set for Aug. 1. It will be in the former Soil Conservation Service building on south Coble Street.

Jim Bridges recently met a goal he set for himself earlier this year: to ride his bicycle the same number of miles as he is years old. He rode 72.98 miles Monday, nearly an entire mile over his goal, then got up Tuesday to ride another 72.8 miles.

SA Jeffrey Todd Soyez has completed the eight-week basic training course of the U.S. Coast Guard at Cape May, N.J. Following leave, Soyez will be at Mobile, Ala., where he will be stationed on the Coast Guard cutter, White Pine.

The 4-H Queen of the Tri-County Fair will be selected Saturday in a ceremony at Herington Community Building. Candidates include Lindsay Matz, Lincolnville Wide-Awake; Alyssa Ryff, Ramona Red Chiefs; and Stephanie Goossen, Goessel Goal Getters.

Nickolas Hett celebrated his 10th birthday June 30. A party was given that day at the home of his parents, Aaron and Lanell Hett. It began with swimming and games at the pool, then returning home to play basketball. Those attending were Nickolas' brother Travis, his sister Lindsay, Tyler Stubenhofer, Clayton Chamberland, Justin Brookens and Timothy Schuler.
