The former Marion Municipal Power Plant building has been sold by the City of Marion to K.C. Development. Plans are to convert the building to become a solid waste transfer station. Trash trucks will enter from the south, dump inside where trash will be compacted and loaded into larger trucks for transport to a regional landfill. Trucks will exit the building on the north side, according to company owners Rex Savage and Theo Bond.

Ground was broken this week for a new Casey's General Store at 1020 East Main in Marion. The store is scheduled to be open in January. Casey's president Ronald M. Lamb said the store will employ two to four people full-time and six to eight with part-time employment opportunities.

Birth announcements in this week's issue include the following: a daughter, Cathryn Sherie, to Bobbie and Cindy Elam of Cedar Point; a son, Brendon Allen, to Dwayne and Mindy Stika of Hillsboro; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to David and Cindy Henning of Wichita, a son, Tristan Michael, to Jeremy and Melanie Dunn of Wilmore; and a daughter, Cheyenne Jaye, to Michael and Diane Jeffrey of Marion.

Two Cougars from Centre High School, Nick Evancho and Kelly Wonser, have been selected to play in the 11th annual Kansas 8-man All Star football game to be held Saturday afternoon at Beloit. Nick is the son of Demitry and Pat Evancho of Lost Springs and Kelly is the son of Mark and Marsha Pagenkopf and Steve Wonser, all of Lost Springs.

Ern Hett's Copper Shed, south of Marion, was featured in an article in the recently published Travel and Leisure section which appeared in several Kansas City area newspapers.

Jane Makovec is the July "resident of the month" at Hilltop Manor. She has lived there since August 1985. "I just love it here," Jane says. " I don't have to worry about anything.

Bob and Fernetta Hoover celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 7 with a family dinner at County Dreams Bed and Breakfast.
