Fifty-four high schools across Kansas, including Marion High School, will share $81,000 equally to help meet their students' educational needs, thanks to Southwestern Bell Telephone and its local customers.

"Fast Eddie" Parker, model for the classic film character "The Hustlers," will perform a pool shooting exhibition from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Coneburg Inn in Peabody.

Phoebe Janzen, instructor with Marion County Special Education Cooperative, attended a national institute on civics and citizenship at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, N.C. The institute is designed to help teachers and a local attorney-partner for teaching effective citizenship. Janzen's attorney-partner is Eighth Judicial District Administrative Judge Michael Powers.

The Eisenhower Drive/K-256 intersection near Marion County Club is scheduled to be re-opened this week, following extensive road work. Additional improvements to Marion streets will continue all summer and into the fall, including new curbing and 60 blocks of asphalt paving.

A farewell gathering for Felipe Bonventi was hosted July 7 by Brad and Jeannie Wildin, Joshua and Clark. A cookout buffet dinner was included in the evening activities. Felipe has been a part of the Wildin family and the Marion community with the American Intercultural Student Exchange since Aug. 15, 1994.

Marion Country Club held its third annual co-ed golf tournament Sunday. Winners in the championship flight were Fred and Mary Nibarger, Hesston. Don and Pam Bredemeier were second.
