A $40,000 settlement was accepted Monday by Marion County Commission, in payment for the 1993 Marion-based county ambulance destroyed in a June 14 fire. The ambulance was declared a total loss after it ignited while heading out of Topeka on Kansas Turnpike after transferring a patient to a hospital there.

Dozens of Topeka-area people came to Marion to visit historical sites and shop a little. They first visited the Marion Historical Museum, then visited the Copper Shed, Kingfisher's Inn, Hartke's Music Museum, Kraft Korner, Flint Hills Gold, Clayworks, and Casual Closet.

A come and go miscellaneous bridal shower was held at Eastmoor United Methodist Church July 14 honoring Sherry Koop, bride-elect of Michel Soyez. Hostesses were Marge Christensen, Virginia Heerey, Norma Kline, Randee Loomis, Shari Padgham, Amy Pippin, Eileen Sieger and Joan Winter.

Marion High School will be well represented at the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl football game Aug. 3 in Topeka. Jason Wheeler has been selected as a player for the West team. Members of the 180-piece Kansas Masonic All-State Marching Band will include Katie Barta-Moran, James Parmley, and Chris Bowers.

Forrest and Bea Kelsey hosted a dinner buffet at their home the evening of July 18 in honor of Clara Grimes Adams and Keith Kelsey, who were married earlier in the day in the home of the Rev. Leon Hayen, Topeka.

More than 50 concerned business leaders attending the Marion Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday noon remained for a special session to discuss proposal to improve the community. Diane Hett, Marion's city facilitator, sponsored the meeting.
