Marion has been selected as the primary research site for a major scientific study, the results of which will be presented at a prestigious national convention in October. Marquette University researchers who are conducting the study hope that at least 200 people will participate in the project at Marion.

Sue Henke of Topeka, formerly of Lost Springs, has been named public information director of the American Lung Association of Kansas.

Robin Michelle Summervill of Marion and Craig John Totten of Gresham, Ore., were married June 1, 1996, in a ceremony at Eastmoor United Methodist Church , Marion.

Walt and Jackie Hett hosted a family get-together several days last week at Still Water Resort on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. The time was spent boating, skiing, swimming, sightseeing, riding jet skis, antiquing, and visiting.

Nineteen Marion County youth attended the Farmers Union Youth Camp July 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona. Participants were Nathan Brunner, Nichole Davis, Jack Davis, Jessica Deines, Shelby Deines, Amy Hajek, Andrew Hajek, Stephanie Heiser, Krista Heiser, Seth Jirak, Raschelle Jirak, Ashton Kerbs, Andrea Kleiber, Amanda Kleiber, Simon Makovec, Shaina Makovec, Ashley Secrest, Chelsey Tajchman and James Weber.

There were 82 children participating in the Kansas Kids Read program at Marion City Library this summer. Jessica Bernhardt read the most books, 225; and Sarah Davidson read the most pages, 6,396. Winners in the drawing for books were Taylor Carrithers, Alex Nuss, Rachel Davidson, Molly Rhodes, Josh Yerion, Joanna McGinness, and Grant Garrard.

Marion Boy Scout Troop 102 attended Quivira Scout Ranch summer camp July 14-20. Those attending were Matt Berg, Andrew Brookens, Andy Holt, Ben Meisner, Chad Palic, Matt Rhodes, and Evan Sharp. Adult leaders who accompanied the troop were scoutmaster Terry Holt, assistant scoutmaster Jackie Palic, and assistant scoutmaster George Meisner.
