The wheat crop is finally history, even though some harvesters have been seen cutting wheat that usually is completed in June. According to Steve Ton, Marion County extension agent, reported test weights in Marion County measure at an average of roughly 55 pounds at about 25 bushels per acre.

Peggy Blackman has presented Marion City Commission with a letter of resignation effective Sept. 8. Blackman said the opportunity to go into private business was "too good to pass up."

Two young astronauts from Marion were among those who participated in the Future Astronaut Training Program last week at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. They are Chris Byer, son of Les and Celia Byer, and Matt Schuler, son of Gary and Mary Schuler. Established in 1985, the popular five-day space camp for middle school students is one of the nation's major residential space camp programs.
