Both the federal and county lakes at Marion were extremely busy during the Labor Day weekend. At Marion Reservoir, the federal facility, project manager Bruce Padgham said the weekend was "one of the largest in years." At Marion County Lake, superintendent Dale Snelling said, "it was a nice weekend, better than anticipated."

A crowd of more than 2,000 people was on hand Saturday to view the parade during Burdick's 23rd Labor Day celebration. This year's Labor Day celebration at Florence was a true weekend celebration and brought a lot of new faces to the community each day.

Marion County Emergency Food Bank has been busier than usual. Janet Bryant, one of those in charge of the food bank, said 13 families had been referred during the month of August.

The new scoreboard at Marion Stadium should be up and running by Friday. It was provided in part by Pizza Hut of Marion and Pepsi. The scoreboard at Florence Middle School also has been improved.

Glenn and Betty Kyle of rural Peabody will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at an open house Sept. 17 at the Burns Community Center.
