Sunflower Building workers guided a hydraulic ram which will power the elevator being installed in Marion County Courthouse. Instead of pulleys and cables, the elevator cab will be raised and lowered on the shaft. The courthouse was evacuated while a tall crane inserted the shaft through the roof, but there were no problems and employees soon returned to their offices.
Marion County Extension Agent Steve Tonn, long recognized locally for his distinguished service, has been honored this week by the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. Tonn received the national association's distinguished service award.
About 30 players are out for Marion High School football this season, led by seniors Jeremy May, Chris Bowers, Shawn Markley, and Nick Thornbro. Juniors are Noah King, Shaun Craft, Chris Solomon, Jerod Hett, Josh Whitwell, Dusty Delaney, Cy Prior, Jimmie Peters, Corey Shoemaker, and Jesse Versch. Sophomores are Justin Whiteman, Scott Hannaford, Mike Williams, Josh Powers, Adam Thomas, Matt Regier, David Darrow, and Curtis Gore. Freshmen are Jim Helmer, Oliver Good, Justin Hett, Jesse Branson, Scott Prior, John Ottensmeier, Damion Schinnerer, and Dustin Sherbert.
Pauline Holub of Marion has been promoted by Butler County Community College. She has been given the additional responsibilities as site coordinator of the Marion campus, Butler of Marion.
Jennifer Thole, a native of Marion and graduate of Marion High School, has been selected as assistant sports information director at Kansas State University, Manhattan.
Harvey Girls Janet Robinson, Suzanne Robinson, Jennifer Savage, and Sharon Omstead were part of the Florence Historical Society float which took first place in the annual Labor Day parade in Florence. Florence United Methodist Church placed second and Florence Chamber of Commerce placed third in the adult float division.
Eight "Wake Up to Marion County" signs were installed during the past week by Ad-Co Signs of Wichita. The sign company is owned by Greg All, a former Peabody resident.
