The United Arab Emirates endurance racing team, led by the Crown Prince of Dubai, stayed at Clover Cliff Bed and Breakfast this past week. The team leased a number of horses from American owners and trained with them at the historic ranch. The team will compete Saturday for the Endurance World cup, riding a 100-mile course through Geary County. The race and most of its related events are free and open to the public.

In celebration of 25 years of service to the elderly, Hilltop Manor, located on east Lawrence street in Marion, will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Jason Kruse of Marion won the FFA ag mechanics division at the Kansas State Fair. Kruse won the large project division with a 32-foot flat trailer.

Warren and Donna Kreutziger with the help of Marge and Kenneth Sandwell, hosted residents of Canada Sunday afternoon at the Kreutziger home. The special occasion was to honor the newlyweds of the neighborhood.

The "Last Member" club of Marion High School Class of 1927 met Sept. 14 at Stone City Café for a dinner observance of the 89th anniversary of their graduation. Those present were Margaret Wolf, Winifred Conyers and Florence Thompson of Marion, Fred and Ola Pracht of Cedar Point, Edna Macklin of Topeka, and Esther McGhay of Ottawa.

A groups of otherwise-rational people gathered in the backyard of Roger and Marie Morse late Sept. 10 to watch flowers bloom. The plant they were watching is a night-blooming cereus. It earned its name because the blossoms do not open until well after dark and will close at dawn.

The Marion High School Swing Singers will perform at the 1997 Kansas Music Educators Association festival Feb. 28 in Wichita. Only three small vocal groups statewide were selected.

The first meeting of Neo-Century Club's year began at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 with a Mexican dinner at the Hilltop Manor activity center. The meal was prepared and served by Virginia Heerey, Pearl Helmer, Shirley Carlson, Peggy Cather, and Suzanne Thole.
