11-and-under golfer wins by 16 strokes years ago

Twenty-three area boys of all ages competed in a junior golf tournament July 28 at the Marion Country Club

The youngest group, 11 and under, played nine holes. The three other groups played the full 18.

Daniel Kunantaer finished first in the 11-and-under group. He easily ran away from the field, shooting a 38, 16 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Daniel Dick. Corbin Rother finished five strokes behind Dick with a 59.

In the 12-13 age group, Luke Gordon slipped past Deven Monaghan and Justin Kent to capture first place. Gordon shot a 79, while Monaghan and Kent both finished with an 81.

Travis Hett shot an 18-hole low 75 to win the 14-15 age group. Jacob Hoover fell one stroke short of Hett and finished second with a 76. In third place was Jake Bredmeier who shot a 99.

In the oldest group, 16-17, Landon Plumer's round of 80 gave him a first-place finish. Tyson Kohls shot an 83 to land in second place, while Justin Williams rounded out the top three with an 85.
