Eloise Mueller has been hired as executive secretary of the Marion Chamber of Commerce. She began her new duties this week. The wife of Earl Mueller of Marion, she has been employed most recently as vice president of Tip Top Credit Union at Hillsboro. Prior to that she was a legal secretary. She replaces Marsha Ames, who resigned.

Anita Hoffman and Bob Brookens wish to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. The couple will be married in July.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland Stenzel of Marion and Mr. and Mrs. George MacGowan of Wichita attended the Kansas Twins Association annual conference in Wichita April 23 and 24. Leah Stenzel and Rachel MacGowan are twin sisters.

Stephanie Loney and Laurie Lee Silhan, both of Marion, have been named to receive $300 scholarships from the St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary for the next academic year.

Fifth graders at Marion Elementary School participated in a science fair during the past week. First place went to Ravelo Harris, second was won by Heather Hughes, and third went to Traci Helmer.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bryant announce the engagement of their daughter, Jan Ellen, to Darin Helmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Helmer, The couple has chosen Sept. 17 as their wedding date.

High winds Wednesday morning knocked over a construction trailer at the South Third Street Bridge. Work crews were not injured, but had to take cover as winds increased to 80 miles per hour for a short time. The winds blew the roof off one building in Marion. Little other property damage was reported.

Marion County EMTs have been presented with a gift of two additional Resusci-Anne training mannequins for use in cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. The mannequins were presented by local and state members of the National Automobile Dealers Association.
