Farmers hauled nearly record yields to elevators this week as the 1983 Kansas wheat harvest nears conclusion. Reports from area grain elevators place yields at substantially higher than last year's harvest. Yields and grain test weights vary throughout the county.

A full slate of activities, including buggy rides, shoot-outs, and bluegrass music, is expected to bring out the old time spirit in everyone July 23 as the Marion Chamber of Commerce sponsors the first "Old Fashioned Saturday." Events, mostly keyed toward enactment of the frontier days, are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. till after dark, according to Janie Meierhoff, chairman for the chamber's retail sales committee.

An eight-member cheerleading squad from Centre High School was judged one of the five top squads competing at the annual Kansas State University Wildcat Cheerleading Camp July 5-8 at Manhattan. Members of the team included Jan Nowak, captain; Jody Mueller, Kim Nickel, Sharon Hamm, Kim Buethe, Cindi Mueller, Vicki Alvarez, and Michele Broce.

Rex Siebert's Diamond X Ranch three miles west of Marion will play host for the opening of the Kansas Hereford Association's annual tour July 22-23. Siebert's ranch will be one of 13 operations scheduled on the tour.

Tammy Krich, 16, daughter of Mrs. Robert Kelsey of Marion, has been chosen as a semifinalist in "Teen Magazine's 1983 Great Model Search." Krich will be featured in the magazine's August issue and will become eligible for selection as a contest super semifinalist which is the next step to winning the competition.
