A popular feature of Marion's Old Fashioned Saturday Nigh celebration was buggy rides on Main Street provided by Steve Jost. Judges for the best costume contest were Jerry Heath, Margaret Wolf, and Ira Newcomer. Angela Tajchman, Alice Davies, Gladys Pfizenmaier, Lydia Batt, and Florence Slocombe, members of the Singing Grannies, entertained early morning listeners. A hot air balloon contributed to the festivities of the day. Provided by Western Associates, it also marked the opening of their new headquarters in Marion. The firm held a hog roast Saturday for salesmen and company representatives to become acquainted with the new office facilities.

Marion County Record editor Bill Meyer will be on a panel of three journalists who will question state senators Ross Doyen and Jan Myers over Channel 8 (KPTS) from 9 to 10 Friday in Wichita.

Kingfisher's Inn, owned and operated by Bob and Kathy Sprowls at Marion County Lake, was the subject of a feature article in the most recent edition of Motorist, published by American Automobile Association of Kansas.

J. Ted Garner, a former Marion chiropractor, now of Morrowville, was charged with first-degree murder July 18 in connection with the disappearance of a 66-year-old Washington County man.

Future Farmers of America officers from Marion High School attended state leadership camp at Rock Springs Ranch last week. The officers are Daniel Bowers, Matt Wineinger, Bret Dannenfelser, Janet Hett, Nancy Swartz, and Lynette Lalouette. They were accompanied by Earl Wineinger, chapter adviser.
