Dr. John Slifer, Florence physician, and Albert Klenda, president of Hospital District No. 1, announced this week that the hospital district has purchased the Slifer Clinic at Florence. The purchase was effective Jan. 2, 1982, and includes the building and nearly all of the equipment and fixtures at the clinic located at 603 Main in Florence. Dr. Slifer, who has been practicing at Florence for 47 years, will continue to practice for at least the next six months and possibly longer.

Gene Winkler has moved the Goodyear tire franchise downtown, across from the post office, into an attractive new building which will be faced with cut stone. Known as "Gene's Tire Service," the business is expected to be open within a week offering a full line of Goodyear products, retail and wholesale, as well as automobile maintenance service.

Don W. Hodson, M.D., a young family practice physician, has announced that he will move to Marion in June after completing a three year residency program at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He will locate his practice in the new St. Luke Medical Center building.

Engagements announced in this issue included the following: Carol Lynn Engle to Thomas V. Poppe, who will marry Feb. 20 in Overland Park; Laurie Layman to Scott B. Miesse, who have selected July 24 as their wedding date; and Ann Bryant to Pat Carr, who are planning a May wedding. Also in this issue is the wedding write-up of Ronda Kaye Sommer and Leroy John Kraus, who were married Nov. 28 in Eskridge.

Alice Hockensmith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hockensmith of Florence, has been appointed to the Marion County Family Life Education Committee. A senior at Marion High School, Hockensmith is the first high school student to serve on the committee.

Officers elected at the 53rd annual Tampa Alumni banquet held Dec. 26 at the Tampa Catholic hall were: Lynn Kleiber, president; Arlin Mueller, vice president; Leona Kleiber, secretary; and Sharon Costello, treasurer. Classes of 1931, 1941, 1951, 1961 and 1971 were honored. A dance followed with music by Gary Houser.
