Led by five Japanese Buddhist monks, a group of over 20 marchers, a company of international peace demonstrators, marched into Marion Monday protesting the build-up of nuclear arms. Members of the demonstration included two women from Germany and a host of other followers from across the western United States. There also were several people from Hillsboro and Marion who joined them on the 10-mile walk from Hillsboro which began Monday morning.

Wanda Ruth Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hett of Marion, received the masters degree in education at Wichita State University at the end of the fall term.

Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record, has been selected as a guest lecturer in journalism at Wichita State University. Charles Pearson, director of the WSU Department of Journalism, said Meyer will speak to a class of graduate students on the topic of community journalism.

Representatives from Florence, Walton, Peabody and Newton met in Florence Thursday to discuss strategy for highway improvements in the 74-mile stretch of U.S.-50 running from Newton to Emporia.

Patricia Fruechting, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Fruechting of Marion, has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall semester at Wichita State University.

Five stories from recent books published by Msgr. Arthur Tonne, pastor of St. John parish at Pilsen, are included in the 1982 edition of "The Minister's Manual." Msgr. Tonne's stories are found in the section entitled "A Treasury of Illustrations."

The Eastshore Development Association held its annual business meeting Friday evening and elected the following officers: Lynn Christensen, president; Ralph Adams, vice president; David Waner, secretary-treasurer; and Harvey Kruse, board member.

Jerry Nowak of Ramstein AFB, Germany, called his family, the Joe Nowaks, Saturday evening to tell about his experiences while spending some time in Austria, Switzerland and Italy. Jerry attended Mass at St. Peters in Rome and at one time was only 100 feet from Pope John Paul II.
