State and county road crews continued through the weekend to dig out from the worst blizzard to hit this area in four years. Snow removal along federal, state, and county highways began full force Wednesday and Thursday, but high winds slammed passages shut only hours after plows had passed through. The heaviest snowfall in the county was recorded in the northwest where over 15 inches fell. Snowfall was reported at 14 inches in Marion.

Patrick D. Costello, a native of Marion, has been named "outstanding young man of Idaho." The son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Costello of Marion, he currently is serving as senior assistant to Gov. John Evans of Idaho. Costello and his wife, Jeanette, have two children.

Gary and Elaine Ewert of Hutchinson are the proud parents of a daughter, Amanda Elizabeth, who was born Feb. 3.

Four senior girls and four senior boys will compete for royalty honors Friday night at the annual Centre High School basketball homecoming. Queen candidates are Jackie Tajchman, Vickie Tajchman, Deena Gutsch, and Anita Kristek. King candidates include Darren Makovec, Mark Myer, Alan Svoboda, and Jeff Methvin.

Marion County planners will study the feasibility of a proposed rural cable television system offered through a Salina cable company.

Mark E. Arnold of Topeka was sentenced Monday in Marion County District Court to a term of from 10 to 20 years in prison for his part in the Sept. 17 robbery of the Ramona State Bank.

The Florence Chamber of Commerce has assumed responsibility for a fund drive designed to replace over 30 worn American flags in the downtown Florence area.
